Front Line Assembly was formed in 1986 by former Skinny Puppy member Bill Leeb. It's possible Front Line Assembly have done more in their career to advance the state of the art than any other post-industrial band. So many modern conventions of post-industrial music can trace their lineage back to Front Line Assembly in one way or another. 1989's Gashed Senses & Crossfire built upon the sample-heavy style of contemporary Wax Trax industrial with aggressive high-tempo synths, creating a rich sonic texture that would be incredibly influential on the genre as whole.

1995's Hard Wired, and the follow-up EP Plasticity, would advance the genre even further; Incorporating elements of heavy metal to craft a dark, and undeniably physical presence.

The incredibly prolific Bill Leeb's impact on the genre, and the musical industry as a whole can't be overstated. He achieved a worldwide hit with his side-project Delerium's song Silence, which would go on to have an even greater impact when remixed by Tiësto.
